Did you know that the internet as we know it today actually began as a project called ARPANET in the late 1960s by the U.S. Department of Defense? It was the first network to use the TCP/IP protocol, which is still the standard for internet communication today. The World Wide Web, on the other hand, was created by British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 while working at CERN. He developed a way to access files over the internet using hyperlinks. The first website went live in 1991. The term surfing the internet was first popularized in the early 1990s as more and more people began to use the World Wide Web. In 1990, there were only about 300,000 computers connected to the internet. By 2000, that number had grown to over 300 million. The 1990s also saw the emergence of search engines like Yahoo! and Google, making it easier for people to find information online. In 2007, Apple revolutionized the mobile industry by introducing the first iPhone, changing the way we access the internet on the go. Today, the internet is an integral part of our daily lives, connecting people all over the world and providing access to vast amounts of information. It's hard to imagine a world without it!
