Put-Away Error Trends

Let’s say you have a mixed MLO1 pallet of product, like lids, for example. The maximum capacity for these lids is 300 (with a master pack of 12). You have Location A with 271 lids already stored there. The system automatically splits new receipts to fill up these locations. For example, when 120 lids are received, the system will automatically split the quantity, sending 29 lids to Location A to fill the remaining space and the other 91 lids to Location B.What we are finding with these errors is that we are rushing through the process, using shortcuts without accurately counting or doing touch counts. For instance when pulling up to Location A, which already has 271 lids, you are tasked with putting away 120 lids (or 10 master packs of 12). However, only 29 lids should go to Location A.Instead of opening a box to place the correct amount (29 lids), you might be taking the open box of 7 lids from Location A and adding 36 lids (or 3 full boxes of 12), so you don’t have to open a box. Then you get to Location B and put away the remaining 91 lids (7 boxes of 12) plus the extra 7 lids you took from Location A.When we are performing audits, for some of these error root causes we are finding that only one Team member touch is being recorded at both locations on the same day, with the only transaction performed for Location B as in this example. The quantity often ends up either short or over.
