Meet the Normal Distribution, also known as the Gaussian distribution.
Lizbeth Flestado
It's a continuous probability distribution for a real-valued random variable. You might have heard it being called a 'bell curve' due to its characteristic shape. One of the key properties of the Normal Distribution is Symmetry. The distribution is symmetric about the mean. This means that half the values fall below the mean and half above the mean. The mean, median, and mode of a normal distribution are all equal and are located at the center of the distribution. The distribution is fully described by two parameters: the mean (μ) and the standard deviation (σ). The mean determines where the peak of the curve is centered, while the standard deviation determines the spread of the distribution. The Empirical Rule, also known as the 68-95-99.7 rule, states that in a normal distribution: Around 68% of values are within 1 standard deviation from the mean. Around 95% of values are within 2 standard deviations from the mean. Around 99.7% of values are within 3 standard deviations from the mean. The range of a normal distribution is from negative infinity to positive infinity. The tails of a normal distribution curve extend to infinity without touching the horizontal axis
