Story of Jagannath Das
Sameer Mashalkar
One night, Baba tapped his stick, but no one came. Baba said, Oh, no one has come! Old age has come, O Lord! Just then, a young man arrived and said, Baba! Let me help you. The young man held Baba’s hand, guided him to the restroom, washed his hands and feet, and helped him back to bed. Jagnnathdas Maharaj thought, Who is this servant who came so quickly? His touch feels delightful, giving me a deep sense of joy and bliss. As he was leaving, the young man turned back and said, Baba! Whenever you tap like this, I will come. Even if you just think that I should come, I will be there. Baba asked, Son, how will you know? I will just know. Do you not sleep at night? Yes, sometimes I do, I take a light nap. But I am always ready to serve. From that night on, whenever Jagnnathdas Maharaj tapped his stick, the young man would arrive immediately to serve him. Many days passed like this, and Jagnnathdas Maharaj wondered how the young man managed to come so quickly. One day, he held the young man’s hand and asked, Son, where is your house? It’s close by. In fact, it’s everywhere, the young man replied. What do you mean, everywhere is your house? Baba's intuition grew sharper, and he started to suspect, Could it be that he is the one—He who is no one’s son, but ready to become everyone’s son, father, guru, friend…?
