As we all know marine debris is a big issue, but not many know the magnitude of it. According to National Geographic, There are over 5.2 TRILLION trash pieces in our oceans. To put that into perspective if you line up all the trash towards the sun, it would reach the sun. Because of us humans, all the animals are going to die from ocean debris. According to the Marine mammal center, Over 1 million marine animals die each year from marine debris. It is our job to end what we started. Cleaning the ocean debris requires a collective effort from individuals communities, governments, and organizations. We need to work together as one big community to clean our oceans. There should be laws put to stop plastic pollutants because according to the marine mammal center 90% of trash in the ocean is plastic. A wise man once said “The ocean gifts us water, the ocean gifts us food. In return we trash our beloved oceans.” Ocean debris covering the ocean is like clouds covering the sun, blocking the beauty of nature. We need to take accountability for our actions and stop the spread of marine debris.
