Esophagectomy is a surgical procedure to remove part or all of the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach, called the esophagus. The esophagus is then reconstructed using part of another organ, usually the stomach.Esophagectomy may be recommended in many cases. This can happen in the end stage of esophageal stricture or after swallowing a substance that damages the lining of the esophagus.During an open esophagectomy, the surgeon removes all or part of the esophagus through cuts in the neck, chest, abdomen, or a combination of these organs. The esophagus is reconstructed using another organ, often the stomach.
