It's a lovely sunny day, and our environmental enthusiast, Jane, is keen on sharing her insights about composting.Hello there! I just love talking about these topics - composting. You see, landfills have been a common method of waste disposal for centuries. However, they take up valuable space and pollute the environment. That's an interesting point Jane. Can you tell us what we can do to minimize landfill waste?Absolutely! We can start by reducing, reusing, and recycling at home. But another great method is composting - it's a natural recycling process where organic waste decomposes into a nutrient-rich soil conditioner.Sounds amazing! But how does one get started with composting?Composting is actually quite simple. You need a compost bin or a small area in your yard. Add organic waste materials in layers, such as fruit or vegetable peelings, grass clippings, and leaves. But remember to exclude meat, dairy, and any diseased plant materials.I see. How do you know when your compost is ready? When the compost is dark, crumbly, and has an earthy smell – that's when it's ready! It usually takes between two months to a year, depending on what you have put in your compost pile and the weather conditions. That seems like a wonderful idea, Jane. Composting not only reduces the amount of waste that goes to landfill but also enriches our garden soil. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! My pleasure! I just hope more people will start composting. It’s one little step towards saving our beautiful planet.
